The Best Vacation EVER!!!

It’s been exactly one week since I posted to my blog.  Sorry I’ve been away for so long everybody, but I was on vacation, you know.  Well, I’m back home now.  We got here last night and without a doubt, I can say that our trip to Disney World was the best vacation EVER!!!  My parents might not think so, but as for me, OH YEAH!!!  I am going to pick up where I left off last week.  I told you about my first day at Disney, last Wednesday.  We spent the day at Animal Kingdom.  It rained cats and dogs and we finished the day by eating a delicious dinner at Tusker House.  On Thursday, I got up bright and early because I had a dance workshop at Epcot.  We were over by Italy in a dance studio.  It had dance floors, mirrors, and a ballet barre.  I think it is where people who work at Disney rehearse for shows.  The lady who taught the workshop was a former member of the Radio City Rockettes.  It was a fun workshop and I learned a lot.  After the workshop, my parents, my brother, my sister, and me walked around Epcot visiting all the countries in the World Showcase, which includes 11 countries – Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Italy, the United States, Japan, Morocco, France, the United Kingdom and Canada.  There were so many neat shops in each country and so many cool souvenirs to buy!  I especially liked Japan.  I rode Space Mountain with my brother and my sister and my mom and dad got on Mission:  SPACE and Soarin’ with us, and that’s saying a lot because my mom hates heights (Soarin’) and she’s claustrophobic too, so her getting on Mission:  Space was a BIG DEAL!

We also met lots of characters at Epcot.  I actually chased around all of the Disney princesses from park to park and got them to sign my autograph book and take a picture with me.  In the afternoon, we went back to our hotel room because we were exhausted.  It was so hot and we were so tired from all that walking.  On Thursday night, we returned to Epcot, where we went to the Princess Dinner at the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Norway.  We chose to go to this Princess Dinner instead of the one at Cinderella’s Castle in Magic Kingdom because we read a lot of comments on the Internet where people recommended this dinner and said that even though Cinderella’s is more popular, this one is often better.  And let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint.  I dressed up in my Tiana shirt and my green tutu.  You know I had to dress like a princess to meet the other princesses.  I met Belle from Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Ariel from the Little Mermaid, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White…..all in one place.  The food was super good.  I had salmon and garlic mashed potatoes.  We had the best time!  Epcot rocks!

So, THIS is Disney World, huh? Well, so far Disney World is just plain AWESOME!!! I’ve never been before. We left New Orleans bright and early on Tuesday morning and started our long drive to Orlando, Florida. Lake Buena Vista, Florida……to be exact! We passed through Biloxi, Mississippi and Mobile, Alabama. We stopped in Pensacola Beach, Florida and walked along the beach. This was my first time on a beach. Where I’m from we are landlocked. I got to go in the ocean and my dad took a picture of me doing a back bend on the beach. I posted it on my Instagram account. Then we hopped back in the car and drove through Destin, Florida. We couldn’t stop at the beach there because we got caught in a ginormous rainstorm! The traffic kept us stuck in Destin for longer than my dad wanted us to be. That town is FULL of people on vacation and we saw them running from the beaches and getting on the road trying to get out of the rain. The traffic was really slow driving through town for over an hour. Once we left Destin, we got to Panama City, where we stopped and ate lunch. Then we were back on the road to Disney. We finally arrived in time for the fireworks as we were driving in on Tuesday night. Wow! This place is like another city all its own!

On Wednesday, we spent the day at Animal Kingdom. We went on a morning safari called the Kilimanjaro Safari with my dance group through Africa and saw all kinds of exotic animals. We ate breakfast together then we were on our own for the rest of the day. My family decided to go over to Dinoland and ride on the Dinosaur. We even got my mom and dad to go on it! It was fun. Then we went on the Wildlife Express Train from Africa to the Wildlife Conservatory. While we were on the train, the skies opened up and it started to pour rain. We didn’t get wet on the train. We put on our parkas and pulled out our umbrellas and kept on going! We went shopping in stores like Creature Comforts, Mombassa Marketplace, Mariya’s Souvenirs, and Ziwani Traders. I bought Duffy the Disney Bear from Creature Comforts.  You can only buy him at Disney and I’ve been planning on getting him for months! I bought his sailor suit too. The sales clerk said the cost is $50.  I said, “What?” She said, “Welcome to Disney” with a smile.

I got autographs from Daisy Duck and Russell and Dug from the movie, Up. Then my sister and brother and me rode Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain! One word – AWESOME!!! It was fast and scary and went backwards. I screamed and laughed. The best roller coaster ride ever! Then we went back to Dinoland and rode the Primeval Whirl. My parents didn’t go on that ride either. It was pretty cool too! This whole time we were walking and shopping and riding on rides in the rain! I’ve never done that before, but hey, we were at Disney World! Are you kidding me, none of us were going to go back to the hotel and wait out the rain. Plus, it didn’t stop raining until that evening. We went back to the hotel in the late afternoon and dried off and took naps for a couple of hours. Then it was back to Animal Kingdom that night for dinner at Tusker House. It was an all you can eat buffet and it was soooo good. I’d highly recommend that you eat there if you go to Disney World. I had salmon and chicken and garlic mashed potatoes and corn and I tried plantains for the first time. I had apple cherry cobbler and chocolate chip cookies and brownies. We were all very full when we left. We went back to the hotel and got ready for another busy day.

Good-bye New Orleans, Disney Here We Come!

Yesterday we had another full day spent in the French Quarter of New Orleans.  Our hotel is actually on Bourbon Street.  We shopped and ate and walked around and took lots of pictures.  First we went to brunch at Café Soulé.  I had the best bacon and Swiss cheese omelet and more beignets.  Then we went to shop after shop and I bought a t-shirt, and post cards, and art work showing historic and cultural places in New Orleans.  I also bought a Mardi Gras mask.  Then it was back to the hotel to rest for a while.  We made it back just in time to avoid a rain storm.  After the rain ended, we ventured back out and this time took a tour of the French Quarter.  We were in a horse drawn carriage pulled by a horse named Sugar Daddy.  Did you know that the French Quarter is a 78-square block area?  It is 13 blocks long and 6 blocks wide.  There are hotels and shops and restaurants all side by side.  It also has parks and a church and a school – everything you need!

You’d never have to leave the French Quarter to go get something that you needed, not like my neighborhood, which just has houses.  We saw a lot of big, pretty magnolia trees.  Did you that the magnolia is the state flower of Louisiana?  We went to the Courthouse and saw a magnolia tree that was 150 years old!  Pretty neat, huh?  We went to the bank of the Mississippi River and watched the river boat for a while and ate dinner at a restaurant called the Gumbo Shop.  I had seafood gumbo with shrimp and crab and some BBQ shrimp over pasta.  The food here is the best!  Walking back to the hotel last night, my mom grabbed me and covered my eyes!  When we got into the hotel elevator, a man said that my brother and me are too young to be out on Bourbon Street at night.  My dad said, “That’s why we’re coming back to the hotel!”  Thank you New Orleans!  I had a great time!  I have more pics to share with you.  Now it’s off to Disney World!  We are leaving first thing this morning, and we’ll make one last stop at Café Du Monde for breakfast beignets.

New Orleans, Louisiana!!!

Hi everybody, I’m sorry that I’ve been away for a few days, but I’ve been really busy. It’s finally here – family vacation and dancing at Disney World!! I spent all day Friday and Saturday packing and getting ready. We woke up at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday morning, loaded the car and were on the road by 5:30 a.m. driving to Disney. We drove a total of 13 ½ hours. We stopped for breakfast and for lunch, and we stopped twice to get gas. We drove through Dallas, TX and into Shreveport, LA and then to New Orleans. Man, Louisiana sure does have a lot of swamps!! We drove over several really big bridges and crossed the Mississippi River. When we got to New Orleans, we checked into our hotel and walked around in the French Quarter. We ate crawfish and crab cakes and boudin balls, which are made with sausage and rice. They are like meatballs. We ended the night by going to the world famous Café Du Monde and eating beignets. They are a lot like doughnuts and they were awesome, hot and covered in powdered sugar! Man, that place was crowded! There were people everywhere. Take a look at my vacation pictures so far.

Easy Breezy Dresses – Great for Summer!

You know how much I like dresses – I like them a lot! I have quite a few dressy dresses, but I also have dresses that are pretty casual too. This blog post is devoted to my casual dresses. They are made of the same cotton as a tee-shirt and I can wear them in lots of different ways – with long sleeve tee-shirts underneath or without, with my Converse or with flats, but ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS with my signature pair of leggings underneath! Hey, that’s my look, okay! And yes, you’re going to notice that apparently I have a thing for stripes. These dresses are so casual that I am going to take them all to Disney World with me. It’s hot where I live, but it’s plenty hot in Florida this time of year too! I have some new leggings and they are capri leggings, so I can keep cool in my casual dresses while I’m riding the new Seven Dwarfs Mine Train! They are perfect for summer weather.
